A huge ‘Well Done’ to all our runners who took part in the Athletics NI Northern Ireland Finals. The race took place at the City of Belfast Playing Fields, Mallusk on a beautiful morning, ideal for running. The competition was very high, as this race was between the top three teams from over 4,000 children, from each of the different areas across Northern Ireland.
We were delighted that both our boys’ and girls’ teams were successful in achieving a place in the race. Everyone ran with determination and showed great effort. This resulted in Top Ten finishes for both teams with the girls finishing 8th and the boys finishing 10th - an amazing result!! The boys’ team were also named Southern Area Winners! Special mention must go to Oliver who finished 9th and Sam who finished 18th as they will now be invited to join the Flahavan’s Athletics Northern Ireland Junior Endurance Squad.
Many thanks for all parents and family members who supported the children with lifts and encouragement.

Energy Saving Week – 2019 - Schools Challenge
Energy Saving Week took place in Northern Ireland from Monday 18th – Friday 22nd November 2019. During this week, we encouraged everyone to think about saving energy at home. The Eco Committee asked pupils in Year 2, 4 and 6 to take part in the Energy Saving Week schools challenge. This included
implementing small changes at home such as taking showers instead of baths, turning off lights and electrical items when not in use, turning down the thermostat and turning off the tap when brushing their teeth. Pupils were asked to record the activities
they completed throughout the week. The Eco committee then gathered the
results and sent them to the Energy Saving Trust. On account of our ‘amazing’ results, Moira Primary School has been identified as one of the top schools for saving CO2. On the certificate towards the end of this week’s newsletter you can see how much CO2 our children saved in just one week- we were able to save lots of carbon! Thanks to everyone who took part and keep up the great work!

Penny Wars
We will be running again this year our popular ‘Penny Wars’ scheme from Monday 3rd – Friday 14th February as part of a fundraising project to purchase a new Interactive Panels for classrooms throughout the school. Each class will have their own jar for collecting money which will gain them positive and negative points depending on the type of coin found within! The higher the points the more likely it is to secure a trip to Scallywags for the class! A poster will soon be sent home to outline the scheme in more detail. Start saving up those pennies!

They worked so hard for each other and demonstrated what it means to be a TEAM. Well done boys...bring on the next set of matches!
