Children in need
Tue 26 Nov 2019The children and staff arrived to school last Friday morning in their onesies and pyjamas. It really was a sight to see and injected lots of fun into our fundraising efforts for Children In Need. In addition to wearing their pyjamas and onesies to school, the children also had the opportunity to purchase buns generously supplied by parents throughout the school. A special mention goes to one of our P7 pupils, Lucy Woolsey, who raised £91 on account of undertaking a sponsored 1 hour’s silence.
Special thanks is extended to our P6 children and staff who coordinated and organised last Friday’s events. A total of £919 was raised by Moira P.S.

Haircut for charity
Tue 26 Nov 2019Two of our P3 pupils, Elizabeth and Fern, decided to have their beautiful hair cut off to raise money for charity. The Little Princess Trust makes wigs for children who have lost their hair on account of receiving treatment for Cancer or for children who have Alopecia. The girls were inspired by one of our brave children in the Nursery Unit who previously lost her hair when receiving treatment last year. Fern had 12” cut off her hair and Elizabeth 8”.

£300 donation from Jog Moira
Tue 26 Nov 2019On Monday evening Mr Ford, on behalf of the school, was delighted to receive a cheque for £300 from Jog Moira following their successful ‘Donut Dash’ on Sunday 29th September. We are extremely grateful to Jog Moira for considering Moira Primary School as one of its beneficiaries.

Hedgehog home
Tue 26 Nov 2019At our assembly, last Friday morning, the school was presented with a hedgehog home made by the girls who attend 1st Moira Guides and their leader Gillian McElhinney. The hedgehog home will be placed within a quiet area of the school grounds and will hopefully attract hedgehogs in Moira who are currently homeless. We look forward to welcoming new additions to the school and will let you know in due course if and when they arrive.

P7 trip to Planetarium
Tue 26 Nov 2019P7 went to the Armagh Planetarium on Wednesday. Firstly, after the
journey they went to see a documentary on the life of Neil Armstrong. It
was very long and interesting and it taught us more about him. Secondly
we created our own rockets by putting on a weight, cone and wings, then
we filled them with water and we got to launch them ourselves, but we got
a bit wet! Then we got to see and feel space rocks, meteorites and comets.
The biggest one weighed 22lb and was worth £10,000! The smallest one
was worth £200,000! After that we got to find out what life was like at the
ISS! Some of the things that they said were a bit disgusting! Next we went
to the gift shop which was full of fascinating things – we were all keen to
spend our money! Finally, the BEST bit of all THE DIGITAL THEATRE! We
got to find out more about the planets in a cool way in comfortable seats. The grand finale was a ride on the amazing space roller-coaster. Some people felt a bit sick!

Open evening
Thu 21 Nov 2019Our ‘Open Evening’ will commence at 6:00pm on Thursday 5th December. The evening will begin with an opening address from myself. Thereafter parents will have an opportunity to explore the wonderful facilities available at Moira P.S. and chat to pupils and staff.

Spanish lessons with Senorita Storey
Thu 21 Nov 2019The children are enjoying their lessons from our new Spanish teacher - Señorita Storey. Our previous teacher, Xochitl, left us at the end of June on account of relocating to England. Señorita Storey is extremely impressed with our children’s enthusiasm for Spanish and looks forward to building upon the excellent foundations established by Xochitl.

Sumdog contest
Thu 21 Nov 2019Congratulations to all our pupils for the big success of Sumdog. We are absolutely delighted that Matthew Patterson P1D had the highest score in the competition. Our school had 3 classes in the Top Ten. P5H were 2nd, P6S were 6th, P4McB were 10th in the overall competition. P5H celebrated with a pizza party!

Key Stage 1: Carolyn McNeil P4M and Ryan Nix P4M both with 983 Foundation Stage: Matthew Patterson in P1D with an amazing 996
Each of the key stage winners have received a voucher for the Omniplex in Lisburn for their outstanding effort.......well done!
We were delighted with the accuracy of our pupils as we had 6 pupils in the top ten highest mark leader-board and 28 pupils in the top 50 leader-board. The pupil with the highest score in each class also won a prize.

Royal coin
Thu 21 Nov 2019James Cunningham, one of our P1 pupils, has been awarded the prestigious Royal Coin for showing kindness, consideration and common sense when working with others. James is a popular member in his class and his peers have been regularly overheard saying that he is great fun to play with. We are delighted that James’ lovely characteristics have been recognised in this special way
