What is STEM, I hear you ask?
This is a club that gives children the chance to explore aspects of SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATHS.
It can be about maths puzzles or even engineering.
Our aim is to help improve team work and leadership skills, their confidence and engagement in STEM increases as well as their motivation to study STEM.
We investigated the concept of liquids and solids. Unlike most fluids (which are something that can flow), when applying pressure, the mixture acts like a solid.
We had great fun punching the liquid which then acted like a solid as the children were applying pressure to it. It was a messy job but great fun!
WEEK 3- Creating a maze that will include tunnels and dead ends. Ideas were sketched out on paper first.
Enjoy the videos of the end results.
LEGO ENGINEERING CHALLENGES
WEEK 1- The Drop Test. - Teams had to build a Lego construction that could be dropped from different heights without breaking. As the height got higher, so did the number of Lego blocks used. Some teams even managed to drop their construction from the highest height with 120 lego blocks. It was amazing!
WEEK 2 - Bridge building - Teams had to build a bridge across a 30cm gap and it had to be at least 8cm tall at a given point.
There were lots of breakages and reconstructions. Everyone enjoyed the challenge!
